In this session we have an outline that is an overview of the lesson. I have chosen to give you an actual session on how to teach the discipleship lessons using "Salvation by Grace" as an example. When we finish, I hope you will understand and have a concept of how to teach the other lessons. First of all, on the outline there are three main points in the overview before we get into the actual teaching:

Point 1: In Romans 5:17, righteousness is a gift. That's what you're trying to get the individual to say and to see. You're trying to get him to see that right-standing, right relationship with God has been provided through Jesus Christ as a gift.

Point 2: The main point, where the thrust of the lesson will be, is in Luke 18:9‑14. We want a detailed account with questions that you ask the individual from each verse. In the training we're going to show you how to mark and underline in your Bible so you will know where there is a question you need to ask because you have it marked at that particular point. The main thrust here is verse by verse. The best way to prepare for the lesson in this particular passage is to read it over and over. Meditate on each phrase and each word, what it really means and what it's really saying. That will be the best way to prepare for this lesson.

After this whole process of training is over, we're going to teach you in small segments and then ask you to teach back to the trainer or, if you don't have a trainer, to another person who is listening to this cassette. We'd like you to teach the lesson until you get to where you can go through all the questions and everything we've told you, and then we want you to teach it to your children, your spouse, and your friends. After you've taught it four or five times, then you're ready to teach the lesson to an individual who is lost, a person who is without Christ, a person you really want to reach out and disciple, whether that be a backslider, a Christian who needs more understanding or a lost person.

If you understand the concepts of this lesson, you can then go on to the other lessons in the discipleship series. You will have a very good idea of how to present the other lessons and of the concepts we use as we reach out in these discipleship lessons. You need to go through verses 9‑14, pause, and explain each verse. We'll show you how to do that in the next session.

Point 3: This point is the conclusion. You're going to ask a question, and the conclusion of the lesson is this: "John, if you got down on your knees right now and cried out to God from your heart, 'God! Be merciful to me, I'm a sinner' would God treat you the same way He treated the tax collector? He went down to his home justified. If you humbled yourself and cried out like the tax collector did from your heart, would God treat you the way he treated him?" If John says, "I don't know" or "No," then he hasn't understood the lesson. You haven't taught the lesson correctly, you haven't prepared for the lesson, something's wrong here, because if a person has understood the lesson correctly, they will say or may even hesitate a minute and then say, "Well... Well, yes." "That's exactly right! In His mercy and grace, God

would treat you the same way He treated the tax collector!" If you don't get that response from the lesson on "Salvation by Grace," it hasn't been understood correctly. You need to go back through your materials, through your questions, until the person gets the point.

Right now I want you to take a minute and look at the three main points of this lesson as an overview to the lesson of "Salvation by Grace."
